About

Percy Chang is a photographer and cultural researcher working across documentary photography, cultural memory and arts-based research.

Her background in journalism and publishing shaped the way she follows stories and pays attention to how they are told. Over time, she became curious about how the same photograph can mean something different as our own perspective changes, and the role memory plays in shaping that meaning.

In 2025, for her Master’s thesis in Communication for Development, Chang developed a conceptual framework examining how personal memory can become shared and cultural memory through creative and participatory practices. Her current research continues this inquiry, asking what kinds of memories stay, circulate and resonate. Photography is her main medium for starting conversations that can deepen into shared connection, care and meaningful change.

This research has also shifted how Chang sees her past work. Over two decades, she photographed families across different countries and cultural settings, focusing on closeness, relationships and the small ways people connect. These photographs were made long before her current practice took shape. Looking back, she can see the same curiosity already there — in attachment, belonging, and the moments that stay with us as memories.
