Chang uses photography as a method of arts-based cultural research — to observe, listen and start conversations. From there, a project may grow through text, portraiture, archives or experimental image-making, taking different forms through collaboration.

Her work may begin with a place, a story or a conversation. Photography becomes a way to look closer, listen and follow what emerges. Depending on the project, this may involve text, portraiture, archival material or participatory work, and develop into an exhibition, publication, visual essay, workshop or site-specific project.
